[TeenMinistry] Care Packages for our college kids

TEENS and Adults – below is an announcement from the Shepherds concerning college student care packages.  Teens don’t let the adults do all the work – most of you can help by supplying small items…be creative.  Sr. High – you will be assembling the packages this Sunday at the end of class (you should not have to stay late, it will be a part of class time).

 

Our teens will be putting together care packages for our college students this Sunday morning during the second half of class.  Please bring in snack items such as granola bars, rice krispie treats, hot chocolate, microwave popcorn, gift cards to Starbucks, etc. that they can use for the packages.  They are also in need of empty shoeboxes and cash to cover shipping costs. 

 

Drop your goodies in the basket in the foyer or if you have a cash donation for postage, please hand it to Alan or Becky Shepherd.  All items must be at the church by this Sunday morning class time.  Thanks for helping our teens serve and encourage our college students!

[TeenMinistry] Leaf Raking Pictures

Thank you to everyone who showed up to help with leaf raking!  We had about 25 people here to help – both teens and adults jumped in to get 4 of our neighbor’s yards done in less than 2 hours!  Lots of hard work and a ton of smiles were on hand for the day.  It was evident that helping others who can’t help themselves is a joy and a privilege!  Special thanks to Chris Payne who helped us find neighbors who were truly in need!

[TeenMinistry] Leaf Raking

This is just a reminder about our leaf raking this Sunday.

Also some additional information:

·       Lunch is on your own – meet back at the building at 1 PM

·       If you’re late and we’re already gone just walk around the neighborhood to find us or call me at 636-549-4505

·       We will meet back at the building by 3:30 PM.

·       We need a couple of folks to have hot chocolate ready if possible

·       The weather looks like it is going to cooperate but may be pretty chilly!

·       Bring your own rake – we have a couple of extras if needed but not enough for everyone

·       Leaf blowers are great – bring them, (bring extra fuel or extension cords)

·       Adults welcomed to join us.

Time:       1 – 3:30 PM

Bring:      Rake, gloves, etc.

Who:        Grades 6-12

Need:     

·       Parents to help rake and lead small teams of teens.

[TeenMinistry] Noodles & Co. - Teen Fundraiser

Many thanks to all who have supported the teen fundraising efforts!! 

 

Here is another opportunity to support the teens and enjoy yourself at the same time!  This Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings you may dine at Noodles and Company and 25% of your bill will be donated back to the teen ministry!  Invite your Life group, friends, and neighbors and enjoy a meal together while supporting a great cause.  Please take a flyer with you to give the cashier.  These are available at the church building in the lobby!

You need to be available to help right after morning services until classes begin and again right after classes for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Our movie for Sunday that you voted for last night was “The Game Plan”.

 

YOU NEED TO CALL ME (636-549-4505) IF YOU NEED A RIDE ON THE VAN – As of right now there are10 spots left…after they are full, you will have to meet us at the mall!!!

 

Here are the details for Sunday:

 

IF YOU’RE RIDING THE VAN:

·         Leave after Worship on Sunday (if you’re riding the van)

·         Go to Chesterfield Mall

·         Eat Lunch ($$)

·         Free-Time (large groups)

·         Meet for Movie ($$)– 2 PM

 

§         Matinee	·         $6.75	·
§         Child	·         $5.75	·         (Ages 2-12)
§         Student	·         $7.75	·         (Ages 13+ with Valid Student ID)

 

·         Eat lots of popcorn ($$) and large drink ($$) – go to bathroom during movie – get refills of popcorn (free) and drink (free)

[TeenMinistry] This Sunday and Next

Our service project will be postponed until 11/18 (a week from Sunday) – more on that in another e-mail.

 

This Sunday we will be going to see a movie – we will “vote” on the movie tonight in class and you will also be able to sign up for a ride in the van.  After the van is full, you will need to provide your own transportation.  Details and times will come tomorrow after you decide which movie to see.  Here will be your choices:  The Game Plan (PG),  The Bee Movie (PG) and Bella (PG-13).

 

It will be in the afternoon so parents will not have to choose this over Life Groups.

NOTE TO PARENTS: If you’ve been in the Purposeful Parenting Class this quarter, you might be surprised to see Bella on the list of options since it is rated PG-13.  This movie is rated highly by Jim Dobson and Focus on the Family, Crosswalk and MovieGuide.  It’s biggest downfall for our group is that it seems to be more appealing as a “chic flick” (although the reviewers are rating very high for a great moral story for our teens and families) – so we may have to plan a “girls night out” J

[TeenMinistry] Calendar - Teens Information

Teens,

 

Some of you have already taken advantage of this, but if you would like to sell calendars to your friends, family and neighbors, you can sign up to take a calendar and order sheet with you this Wednesday night. – Orders (with money) are due back no later than Sunday, November 18.  All the orders you take individually will personally earn you $2 for every calendar that you sell which can be applied toward any youth group event through May of next year.

 

ALSO – we need help “manning” the tables for Sunday AM, November 4, 11 & 18.  We just need 2 for each day.  You will need to be able to go there during announcements at the end of services then stay until classes begin at 10:30  AND go back immediately following classes for a few minutes as everyone is leaving.  The total 6 “sellers” will split the “personal proceeds” from the total amount sold on those 3 days.  In order to be fair, you need to e-mail me back (make sure you tell me the days you are available to help)– the first 2 people to e-mail me back per day will get the opportunity to work at the table.

[TeenMinistry] Youth Group Calendar

For the next 3 Sundays – November 4, 11 & 18 – there will once again be teens in the church Lobby taking orders for calendars.  If you remember from last year, these are great, high quality, NIV scripture verse appointment calendars.  The cost of the calendars is $10 - cash or check (made out to Lafayette Teen Ministry) is due at the time of order.  Calendars will be delivered by December 2.  Proceeds go to the Teen Center renovation.  These make great “stocking stuffers” or gifts for Christmas.

 

 

Just a note about our Teen Ministry fund-raisers: 

As you probably have noticed, we are in high gear fund-raising for the renovation of the Teen Center.  We are trying to provide many opportunities for the teens to be involved – however we do not expect every teen to be involved in every fund-raiser, nor do we expect Lafayette members to contribute or buy everything that comes along.  Our fund-raising crew is trying hard to find items that are practical (i.e. – not junk!) and fairly inexpensive.  We appreciate all the support that The Body at Lafayette provides our teens!  There are several fund-raisers “in-the-works” so if you’re looking for a new place to eat, or to hire a teen, or need a place to get rid of those empty print cartridges or dead cell phones – keep your eyes and ears open for those and more opportunities that will be coming your way!
