[TeenMinistry] Vacation - and a couple of loose ends.

If you haven’t guessed by all the e-mails today, something’s up.  Our family is leaving on vacation tomorrow and I am trying to get things caught up J

We will miss being with you at the Park for Worship on Sunday but will be enjoying hanging out together as a family before summer activities take over.  We should return by next Saturday night, June 2 and be with you on Sunday the 3rd.

I will not have e-mail or internet access next week and will only be able to check voicemail occasionally.  Feel free to leave a voice mail if you need to and I will return it as soon as I can.

My cell phone is 636-549-4505.

·       I had intended to get a KUDOS page out this week but had a couple of parents say that awards night for their schools is next week so I will get that out when I get back.  It’s looking good so far and exciting to see all the great things our Lafayette teens are involved in…you can still send your kudos to kudos@lcteens.org and I’ll get it.

·       Get your camp applications in…some of the directors are beginning to panic with only 25 campers signed up, they know more are coming but don’t know how many more J So give them a break and go ahead and send it in.  www.neotez.org  Don’t forget if we have 33 lafayette teens and their friends who do not belong to a church go, then Wade will shave his head….ok I will too!

·       I am thrilled to see so many of our teens helping at KidsFest!!!  Way to go guys!

·       August 10th is a service project day…keep that afternoon open when planning your summers.

·       August 11th is Newsboys at Six Flags – I’ve got a few extra tickets if you don’t have a season pass and need one

·       SouLift is July 22 & 23 with the Cardinal/Cub game on the 24th – we will be registering for that soon so be thinking about your schedule for going and be ready to sign up quickly.

·       September 9 is the Ne-O-Tez volleyball fundraiser!

·       October 12-14 is Elevate (formerly known as Pinecrest)

Praying that you all have a great week and that God is glorified by the life you are living!

Because of the Cross,

Mike

[TeenMinistry] Summer Interns

You may or may not be aware that Lafayette has 3 youth interns this summer.

In order to help promote leadership in our Teen Ministry and facilitate relationships, we have 3 of our own young people who have agreed to serve as part-time interns this summer.  Their primary purpose is to help foster relationships with our teens, especially those in Middle School.  They will be working on events and programs for Jr. and Sr. High.

Our interns are

·       Mandy Johnson – Lead Intern– mandy@lcteens.org

·       Amy Ellis – Senior Intern – amy@lcteens.org

·       Charles Portwood – Junior Intern – charles@lcteens.org

You can contact all 3 of them at once by sending an e-mail to interns@lcteens.org

All of them are working on a part-time/volunteer basis but have committed to help as much as they can.  Mandy & Amy will be leading the Jr. High Girls class on Sunday morning and Charles will be leading the Jr. High Boys class.  Jeremiah and Anna Weaver have agreed to help with these classes.

[TeenMinistry] Website Resources, Teen Events & Calendar

Have you seen the new look of the Lafayette Church website?  If not, you should check it out.  Go to www.lafayettechurch.org (be patient and it will re-direct itself).

When you get there…click on Ministries and then Teens.  Once you are there, you will be able to access:

·       a calendar of events - All of the things on the calendar that pop up are for or involving our Teen Ministry here at Lafayette.  The events in red are Teen Ministry sponsored events.  The other colored events that are on that page are ministries where our teens have an opportunity to be involved or have been specifically invited.  For instance – you will see KidsFest on there – although it is not a Teen Ministry sponsored event – MANY of our teens are involved.    The calendar is interactive – you can click on the event for more information.  Right now I just have events for June and July but will be adding things often so keep checking back.   I will try to be as detailed as possible, but I know I will miss things so don’t hesitate to ask.  In case you don’t want to head to the website first…you can click here to get to the youth portion of the calendar.

·       a link to an archive of all the e-mails I send out – just in case you’re up late some night with nothing to do!!!

·       a quick 30 day calendar of upcoming youth events - If you seen an event there that piques your interest, you can click on it and it will give you more information.  If the event does not specify Middle School or Sr. High then it is for all ages between 6th and 12th grade – including new 5th graders.

In the future, I hope to have other things up there, but for now that should get us going J

There is a lot going on this summer…the major events are nailed down and we are working to finalize some other things – they will be on the calendar as soon as they are confirmed.  We do need parents/families to step – if you would like to host something (you decide) at your house or the building or somewhere else (like a park or bowling alley or your swimming pool), please let me know – we especially need some things for Sr. High – if I cannot be there, I will help by making sure it is promoted and finding folks to help.

[TeenMinistry] fundraising/service opportunity - Lafayette Family needs help

You may know that Kim Forney has been in the hospital.  His wife Sharon called and asked if there were any teens (or adults) willing to help mow their lawn while he is down.  They are willing financially reimburse someone.

Teens if you need to raise money for camp, mission trip or other youth group activity OR if you need some service hours OR if you would just like to do something nice for some one – please contact Sharon Forney at 314-894-3220.  They need someone ASAP.

Parents this is a great opportunity to walk along the side of your teen and show them faith in action.  Stepping up to serve others is a part of our Christian Walk that is hard to implement sometimes modeling it for our kids is the best way to teach it.

[TeenMinistry] GRADUATION SUNDAY - we need the help of our Lafayette Family

(you may receive this twice if you are on the everyone list and the teen ministry list)

Tomorrow we will be celebrating our High School Graduates at Lafayette.

When you arrive, you will notice tables on both sides of the auditorium with pictures and other items concerning our senior girls.  On each table you will notice a “Box of Blessings”.  We are asking our Lafayette Family to fill these boxes with blessings of a prayer, a scripture thought or word of encouragement that they can reflect on when they leave for college and need a word of encouragement.  Please take the time before or after services to look at their tables and write a note of encouragement to put in their “Box of Blessings”.

[TeenMinistry] FW: Service

Parents,

I need someone to step up to champion this event.  It's a great opportunity for our teens to serve.  Unfortunately, I am planning to be out of town the end of the week of this event.  I have tried a couple of parents individually, and there is a lot going on that week with the start of school.  So I am trying the blanket approach.  We need a response quickly so we can get it on the calendar if it's going to happen and so Helen can breathe easier J .  If you can help by taking the lead on this event, I will try to get you help and the tools and information you need to be successful.

Please see request below from Helen Totty.

Hi, Mike...I work at a local Community Service organization called Circle of

Concern.  They are basically a food pantry for Parkway, Valley Park, and

Rockwood School Districts.  They do a lot of wonderful things for poor

families.

We are having a Back-to-School drive in August and I would like to know if

we could count on some of the teens helping out on Friday, August 10 from

noon 'til ?  We will need young people to help carry donated supplies from a

collection point to another room at Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church on Big

Bend.  I have suggested to my committee that we might be able to supply the

"back" labor.  Please let me know as soon as possible if we can provide some

help with this.  Thanks, helen totty

Hi Everyone

I need your help!

I know this is last minute but this Saturday we will have an outside work day from 8:30-11:30. We will be cleaning up around our building and grounds. The main item we have is to dispose of the large pile of yard debris behind the rental house. We also want to put mulch down around the building as well as remove the over grown bushes in front of the office. If you can spare a few hours Saturday morning it would be much appreciated. I will even supply the coffee and doughnuts.

In Him

Bill

P.S. Bring work gloves.
