Attention All Memphis WorkCamp Workers:

Remember to bring these items:

• A Bible
• 4" Paint Brush
• A Ladder
• Work gloves
• Sunscreen
• Sleeping bag, pillow and other personal items for a weeks stay at a host family's house

Optional Items:

• Hat
• Sunglasses
• Water Bottle

Also remember that we are representing Christ and that we need to dress modestly! T-shirts are required by both genders and appropriate shorts. NO tank tops or spaghetti straps. 

We will be painting during the day so be sure to bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty. You will also want to bring casual clothes for our evening sessions.

I hope you guys are getting as excited as I am for this years WorkCamp!! Study hard for those finals and have a great start to your summer!

[EPIC] Harding Night at Busch Stadium

Harding University is inviting all youth groups (and their families) to come and watch the Cardinals play against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, June 28. We will be meeting at the building at 5:30pm to head down to Busch Stadium. The cost for this event is $14 per ticket. Tickets are limited so it's on a first come first served basis. Confirmation and money are due by Sunday, June 13th. Harding is also putting on an informational dinner before the game at Florissant Church of Christ. If you would like to attend the dinner you will have to purchase your tickets on your own. We will NOT be attending the dinner. [EPIC] DISCIPLE (formerly JHDD)

Middle School – Dave just passed along the forms and I wanted to get them to you as soon as possible.

The forms for DISCIPLE (formerly known as JHDD) are finally here.  CLICK HERE to download.

PLEASE NOTE:  As a group, we will not be attending the July 6 DISCIPLE since we will be helping with KIDSFEST.  Please take this into account when registering.

TRANSPORTATION:  Due to conflicting schedules, the following transportation information may be beneficial for you.

·        June 8 – Our group and van will be at Memphis Workcamp.  Parents will have to provide transportation to Maryland Heights AND be available to drive for the service project. (this could be done by carpool)

·        June 15 – Mike and/or Tim will transport and chaperone

·        June 29 – Mike and/or Tim will transport and chaperone

·        July 6 – LAFAYETTE TEENS will not be participating due to KIDSFEST

·        July 20 – Mike and/or Tim will transport and chaperone

·        July 29 & 30 – Tim or Mike and at least one female chaperone will accompany the teens on the float trip.  If there are girls who participate in DISCIPLE and we do not have a female chaperone, there is a possibility the girls will not be able to attend.

[EPIC] Wednesday Night Changes

We have a change of plans for tomorrow night.  Instead of going to the nursing home, we will have a short devotional and those who are participating in LTC will present their programs.  They need a “live” audience to practice in front of.  Please plan on coming and helping to encourage your peers as they prepare to perform in Indianapolis this weekend.

The Ferguson Heights Church is hosting "The Unity Concert" on Saturday evening, May 1.  It will feature the Good News Singers from Harding University.  While ALL Lafayette members are invited and encouraged to attend, our youth group will be going together.  (If your parents are going and you can ride with them, that will help with van space - below is address and other information)

 

We will leave Lafayette at 5:45 PM.  We should return by 9 PM.  This event is designed to help promote unity between black and white brothers and sisters in Christ in the St. Louis area.

[EPIC] Memphis Workcamp 2010

It’s time to sign up for Memphis Workcamp.  Due to transportation and equipment requirements, there are a limited number of spots available so DO NOT WAIT if you want to go.

DETAILS:

·        Who:  Current 8^th grade thru current 12^th grade

·        Dates and Times:  Monday, June 7, we will leave by 9 AM and will return Saturday, June 12 by 6 PM

·        Cost:  $150 plus meal money for the trip there and back (up to 5 meals).  The cost covers the MWC registration, transportation, lodging, equipment and proper supervision.  (If you need scholarship consideration, please see Mike)

o   Out-of-Pocket Cost: You may want a little extra spending money for snacks, ice cream stop on the way back to your host family, etc. throughout the week. 

§  We are stopping at Buffalo Wild Wings (with the Maryland Heights group) on the way there (don’t worry, they have burgers and salads)

§  When you sign up, you will have the opportunity to vote for going to Lambert’s Cafeteria on the way back.

§  he other meals will be fast food.

·        You  must bring: at least 1 - 4” paint brush AND a ladder (bring, beg or borrow one – if all else fails, see Mike)

·        You must have medical insurance to participate…if this is an issue, let me know.

[TeenEPIC] Summer Intern - WELCOME TIM!!!

Welcome Tim Landuyt

This Summer we are excited to have Tim Landuyt as our Intern.  Tim is a St. Louis native and grew up at Maryland Heights.  You will probably recognize Tim from area-wide events and Camp Ne-O-Tez.  He has served as a camp counselor for Middle School week the past several years.

Tim is finishing his sophomore year at Harding University where he is studying Business Administration.  If you know Tim, he has a heart for ministry and for teens. He is excited about working with our teens here at Lafayette.

A few other interesting notes about Tim—He is an Eagle Scout, has received the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and is a member of Who’s Who Among America’s College Students (2009).  He is also an amateur chef!

Tim will begin working with us on May 12.  He will be teaching the Middle School class on Sunday mornings and leading various activities throughout the summer.  He will be with us through August 16.

The area-wide Middle School Retreat is coming up soon.  If you were at Youth Group on Wednesday night, you should have received a flyer - If not CLICK HERE to download one.  You MUST have this back to me by MARCH 28.

The following is a schedule of LTC practices for the next few Sundays:

12:00 – 12:45:  Drama/ Jr. Puppets

12:45 – 1:30:  Chorus

 

This schedule is tentatively for 3/7; 3/21; 3/28; 4/11.  There will be no drama or chorus practice on 3/14 or 4/4 because I will be out of town on these dates.  Dawn may, however, want to meet with the puppet groups.  Of course, we will still be practicing after 4/11, but the schedule may change depending upon what progress we have made.   Please plan for these dates and times and remember to bring your lunch so we can eat immediately after Bible classes.  Thank you so much for your commitment and dedication—you all are AWESOME!!!!

[TeenEPIC] Harding Trip

What:  Harding Trip

Who: High school students

When:  Thursday, March 18 - leave @ 2 PM -Saturday, March 20 should return around 4 PM

Cost: Varies depending on how many go - $22 plus meals if 8 go, $25 plus meals if 7 go, and $30 if 6 go (we need at least 6 to make the trip and NO MORE than 8)

Bring: sleeping bag & pillow - you will be staying in the dorms - probably sleeping on the floor, couple changes of clothes, money for meals (Dinner  Friday night is on Harding) - if you know college students, they may have extra meals you can sponge.

Lodging:  You will be staying in dorms.  If you have a college student you want to stay with...SEE ME to work it out.

What to expect: 

·         DO NOT MAKE PLANS TO GO OFF CAMPUS WITH COLLEGE STUDENTS, we will do things as a group. 

·         You will have free time. 

·         Plan on meeting Mark Pruitt on Friday, going to chapel and a class or two (if you have a specific class you want to go to let me know when you sign up). 

·         Friday night there is usually something to do on campus...we will find out soon. 

·         You will NOT be allowed to go off campus without an adult. (me).

·         I will be staying off-campus.

·         We will leave Saturday morning around 9 AM

Chaperon:  minor need for a female chaperon...this could be a mom of a student going or a mom of a Harding student who is there you just want to hand-deliver cookies or just someone who wants to go.  Your transportation would be free but you would need to find lodging and pay for your meals.
