Hey Gang – Last minute stuff for the weekend.

Medical Release & INFO Forms

I sent an e-mail to those of you who need a Medical Release form…If you didn’t get a notice earlier, then you are good!  PARENTS – if you have updated information, it is your responsibility to get that info to me so please fill out a new form if anything has changed.  CLICK HERE get a form.

Last Minute Notes

·         ARRIVE – at 5:30 AM tomorrow

·         BREAKFAST – BRING YOUR BREAKFAST tomorrow or eat before you come – we are not stopping for breakfast.

·         PACK A CARRY-ON – your luggage will be down below in the cargo bays – make sure you have an extra bag with your “trip stuff” – money, games, medicine, etc.

·         Meals – you can bring a sack lunch too.  We can put it in a cooler.  You can also bring microwavable stuff for meals over the weekend.

·         Snacks – bring your own snacks for the weekend.

·         Money – Jr. High parents – if you would like an adult to dole out meal money to your child, let me know.  Bring the money in an envelope tomorrow morning for each child.  (This is not mandatory just if you think your child needs a little extra help J )

·         Coats – we stand outside for long periods of time.  Even though the highs are in the 40s and 50s it will still be cold at night (when we are standing out) so bring a coat!!!!

o   The good thing is the forecast is DRY!!!  YEAH!!!

·         Movies – You guys were not real helpful in narrowing down the movie nominations J SO…bring the movie you want to see and we’ll vote.

·         Games – bring card games, etc for free time in the chalet.

·         LISTENING EARS – the key to the weekend is listen and follow, if everyone does that, it will go very smoothly.

·         Stops – we will not stop to “go to the bathroom” – there’s one on the bus.  We will stop to switch drivers (or when the driver needs a break) and eat lunch.

·         Drivers – the 1^st driver’s name is George – tell him “hello” when you get on the bus

o   the 2^nd driver’s name is Dennis – tell him “hello” when HE gets on the bus.

Other Questions

·         Can I bring a pillow? – Yes, but if you leave it, we can’t go back.

·         Do I need to bring a towel? – No they provide linens (1 per person)

·         Can I switch rooms? – no.

·         Can I stay up all night? – NO

·         Who is my roomie?  We’ve had some last minute changes so that will be worked out tonight

·         Can I listen to my iPod? – ONLY during quiet time and bedtime – using it at other times will lose the privilege for you the rest of the weekend.

·         Can I sit with friends from other churches?  No – you are coming with the Lafayette group, we are your group.

·         Can I hang out with friends from other churches during free time?  There is very little real free time.  But if it works with what our group is doing and I have permission from your parents, we will see if it’s possible (HS only – remember MS have to be with an adult from our group).

·         When we stop to pick up Fairview Heights can we eat at Cracker Barrel?  NO, we will not get off the bus, they are getting on.

·         What if I still owe money?  Bring it tomorrow or if you can’t bring it tomorrow, we will settle up when we get back but plan on going.

Schedule

·         Be AT THE BUILDING @5:30 AM Friday AM

·         We are doing Late Sessions – no whining about being tired

·         Should return by 9 PM on Sunday. (This is only tentative.  We will call Sunday afternoon/early evening with an updated time).

Bring

·         $ for meals – 8 meals (eat breakfast before you come or on the bus WE ARE NOT STOPPING FOR BREAKFAST)

o   Can bring cereal bars for breakfasts

o   Can bring your OWN food for any or all meals

§  Coolers, Fridge, Microwave & toasters available.

§  DO NOT plan on using STOVE!!!

o   Can eat fast food all weekend

o   ??? Saturday night $5 – order pizza & drinks

·         $ for souvenirs (not necessary)

·         Gadgets – easy to get lost or stolen

o   Phones – OFF or silenced during sessions and group devo

o   iPods – ONLY during “quiet time” on the bus AND bed time

§  not any other time during the day (including free time)

§  disregarding will get the iPod confiscated for the weekend

o   same for gameboys, PSPs, etc, etc

 

OTHER STUFF

o   Middle Schoolers must be with an adult at all times

o   High Schoolers must be in groups of 5 or more

o   No guys in girl rooms or girls in guy rooms

§  The exception will be during freetime in the COMMON ROOM (TBA)

[TeenMinistry] Winterfest Movies

Hey guys…going on the bus allows us to all be able to watch a couple of movies. Between now and Tuesday night, nominate a movie you would like to watch.  Make sure it is YGA (Youth Group Approved – i.e. can be watched by middle & high schoolers – as well as mixed company).  Wednesday night we will do a final vote for the top 4 or 5.

[TeenMinistry] Winterfest Meeting

WINTERFEST

There will be a very quick meeting on Sunday morning after classes in the Auditorium for teens and adults going to Winterfest.  Parents are encouraged to attend as well.

 

HAITI

I need a couple of guys to help take seats out of the van and put our collected Haiti items in.  This should only take a few minutes (after the Winterfest meeting)

[TeenMinistry] Movie - Saturday - Sr. High

Sr. Hight - Well we are not babysitting so let's go to a movie!  "To Save A Life" has been out for a while and several of you have asked to go see it...so let's go!  Tomorrow - Saturday, Feb 13.  We will leave the building at 11:45 AM.  We should be back no later than 5 PM.  As best as I can tell the tickets are $6.25 for the matinee.

[TeenMinistry] Winterfest Fund-Raiser - We need your help!

OK Winterfest folks…we’ve hit a critical mass and will either need to rent another van OR charter a bus.  We are jumping out on faith and chartering a bus.  We need about $900 to help cover the difference in renting 4 vans and chartering a bus.  Chartering a bus will help us get there quicker AND be a lot safer than if we are driving in separate vans.

Felicia Smith has volunteered to organize a Valentines Babysitting Night on Saturday night, February 13.  WE NEED TEEN BABYSITTERS!!!  We also need a few parents to help.  The more teens we have commit to help the more kids we can take and the more money we will raise (makes sense huh? J ). 

Here are the details:

·        Saturday Night, February 13

·        5:30 PM-9:30 PM (kids will be there 6-9 but we need you there early to help set up and late to help pick up)

·        All proceeds will go to help cover the final cost for transportation.

[TeenMinistry] Winterfest Details

LAST CALL FOR WINTERFEST!!!!!!!!

We have had several more who have indicated they want to go to Winterfest (as well as a couple who needed to back out) so we are trying to nail down transportation needs.  IF YOU WANT TO GO…I need you to commit by THIS SUNDAY! (SEE INFORMATION BELOW) (Tickets are running low and we will have to buy them ASAP…there were only about 800 left this afternoon and they will GO FAST!)  Even if you haven’t indicated and you would like to go – this is going to be an awesome trip   WE HAVE NEARLY 50 PEOPLE GOING!

Balances are supposed to be due THIS Sunday as well – CLICK HERE to see your Balance Due AND also to make sure you are on the list - (if you need another week or so we should be OK with that).

We are putting together a fund-raiser to try to get us to the point of being able to charter a bus.  It is much more convenient and safer.  There will be info coming out tonight about how YOU CAN HELP!  (hint:  teens keep Saturday evening, Feb 13 open)

Winterfest - Gatlingburg, TN

February 19-21

WINTERFEST has become THE EVENT for our youth group.  A weekend youth rally in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, it is a weekend of spiritual growth and a time for our youth group to grow closer together in our relationships with one another.

We try to make all of our events as affordable as possible, The event registration itself is not that bad but the cost of transportation and lodging makes this one of our more expensive events.  If you've been before you know it's worth it.  If you haven't been before, don't let the cost scare you.

REGULAR RATE

If there is room, you can sign up until January 17, the cost for lodging, transportation and Winterfest registration, is going to be $160 .  You need to give me the $ ASAP!!!  (If you need to pay in installments, I understand, see me and we will work something out).

DETAILS

• PAYMENT
• A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOST of $160 is due to hold your spot.
• If you need financial help please see me before you decide not to go.
• If you need financial help, please see Mike BEFORE you decide to not go because of money.
• You need a MEDICAL RELEASE & INFO FORM ON FILE
• Depending on the number of people going, you may be asked to bring a sleeping bag.
• This event is for Middle School AND High School
• Middle School will be under full Adult Supervision
• High School will have limited Supervision (i.e. Saturday afternoon will be free time, large groups of high schoolers may or may not have an adult with them during this time)
• Meet at the building on Friday Morning, February 19 – 5:30 AM
• Should return by 10 PM Sunday, February 21
• Need: 
• Breakfast snack for Friday AM (we will stop later morning)
• Money for  9 meals on the road
• Can Bring

• iPods, etc.
• This is one of the few trips we allow iPods on. iPods will be allowed AT TIMES during the trip in the van.  NOT WHILE WE ARE THERE AND NOT THE WHOLE WAY THERE!

[TeenMinistry] Moody Farewell & Bowling

SIGN UP HERE to go - make sure you read the details below first!

 

We will be joining area youth groups this Sunday to say goodbye to the Moodys who have served Camp Ne-O-Tez as caretakers for the past 20 years.  Following our time there, we will be going bowling with some of the area-wide youth groups at Tropicana Lanes in Clayton.   The cost of $12 includes pizza (2 for a lane), soda (1 pitcher shared for a lane), shoes (you get your own - you don't have to share) and bowling for 2 hours with 4 other people on your lane.

If you cannot go to the Moody farewell but would like to join us for bowling, feel free to meet us at 5 PM (You must still pre-register and pre-pay).  CLICK HERE for a map to the bowling alley.

If you are an adult who would like to go, please let me know so I will know how many rides I can commit to.

[TeenMinistry] LTC - Let it Begin!!!

Hey Everyone

Time to get the ball rolling on LTC!  We will have our first practice for chorus this Sunday right after classes. Those of you who plan to participate in this event, bring a lunch and we will eat first and then practice.  Also, if you are interested in art or scrapbooking, our coach, Dawn Malcolm, will be there to talk to you about these events before we begin practice.  We have VERY FEW  registration forms and payments---PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE register ASAP so we know who is doing what and so Indianapolis knows too!

If you took a calendar to sell for Winterfest…your money is due this week.  Show up early on Wednesday and we will get your calendars to you to deliver. (Don’t forget we’re going to the nursing home)

We HAVE TO HAVE YOUR MONEY in order to get your calendars…don’t forget the calendar you took as a sample will count as 1.  If it is not in good shape, you will have to buy another one.
