[TeenMinistry] Volleyball Tournament

The Ne-O-Tez Volley Ball Tournament is right around the corner!  The Sunday after next, September 7 is the annual Ne-O-Tez Fundraising Volleyball Tournament at Maryland Heights.  The cost is $5 plus your food money (we will be eating concessions there – both lunch and dinner! – the food is very cheap! – or you can bring a sack lunch).  We will leave at noon (after classes and time to change).  We should be back around 7:15 PM.

 

The goal is to have 3 or 4 teams.  (Categories are Middle School and All Ages)

Bring:             Fold up lawn chair (I’m throwing everyone out of mine this year J ), games/cards to play during down time, clean shirt for the van ride home – especially boys J

Still Need:      1 or 2 drivers (if you don’t want to stay all day but would be willing to make a one-way drop-off or pick-up trip please let me know of your availability)

FAQ:  

• If I don’t want to play do I have to?  No – we are still asking you to donate $5 to Ne-O-Tez.  The more important thing is that you are with the group.  There is plenty of time to hang out and have fun with the group.
• What if I can’t stay all day?  That’s OK – come have a good time as long as you can.  Make sure you check with me before you leave with your parents.
• What is Camp Ne-o-Tez?  Camp Ne-o-Tez is a Christian Camp in DeSoto, MO where our teens from the St. Louis area churches of Christ can spend a week each summer learning about Christ and developing relationships that will last through eternity.

[TeenMinistry] Trivia Night Success

Thank you to ALL who made Trivia Night a huge success.  From those who paid to attend even though they knew they couldn’t come to those who gave a $5 bill for a soda and said “Keep the Change” – many of you played a big part in raising $1177.44 for our Teen House on Friday night.

 

A Big thank you to Felicia Smith for directing the event, to Craig Anderson for standing up the whole night to host the event, as well as Herb Crown for staying in the sound booth all night and many others who worked in concessions, babysat and helped clean up.  We had several who donated food and services.  Many of our teens worked to set up, clean up and tear down.

 

The growth in our teens is evident – over 30 of them showed up Friday night just to help, they are growing in spirit and in truth, working, serving and enjoy just being together!  Thank you Lafayette for your support!  The investment you are making now is beginning to and will continue to have great impact on the Kingdom!

[TeenMinistry] Trivia Night

Good Morning!

 

We are looking forward to Trivia Night this Friday evening.  Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the competition will begin at 7 PM.  For your convenience (and to help raise more money J ) there will be a concession stand open at 6:30 where you can purchase hot dogs, pizza, nachos, chips, popcorn & sodas.  So plan on coming hungry for dinner.

 

Thank you to all who have already signed up.  We will have a sign-up table in the lobby this Wednesday evening before and after classes for those who still need to sign up.  We will also take walk-ups!

[TeenMinistry] Revolve Tour

The Revolve Tour is coming back to St. Louis October 17-18.  The total cost for the early-bird discount including a boxed lunch is $62.  If you are interested in the early-bird discount bring a $25 deposit to Wednesday night classes or bring it by the office by Thursday morning (August 21) – we will order tickets Thursday afternoon.  You are guaranteed better seats if you sign up early.  We need at least 10 people to get the discount rate.

The general schedule is the same as last year: (Times will be finalized later)

            Friday Night -  Leave about 5 PM

                        Spend the night in the Teen Room

            Saturday – Back to the building around 5 PM.

 

If you decide to wait for the 2^nd order of tickets in early October, the total cost will be $72 and you will most likely not be sitting with the early-bird group.  Also, availability of tickets will not be guaranteed.

Lafayette Teen Center Trivia Night

Friday, August 22, 7:00 p.m. - ?

 

 

All teens can participate in these ways:

 

Sell enough tickets to fill one table of 8 per family ($10 per ticket, or $75 for table of 8).

 

Decide what teen service you will offer during silent auction, and minimum bid accepted.  We will have a clip board with your picture, service offered, and bid sheet at the auction table.

Make sure you follow through, contact winning bidder, and complete service in a timely manner.  (Remember, this is a fundraiser for the teen center, so you will not actually receive the money for this service, it goes back to the teen center fund!)  You may want to put a time limit on your service, such as “2 hours of babysitting”.

 

Act as hosts and hostesses during trivia night.  Please arrive by 6:30 p.m. to offer assistance to guests or assist with setup.  We will have refreshments available for purchase, so you can help raise money by offering these to our guests, and serving them.

We will also need teens to provide babysitting that evening.

 

We will also be offering “Mulligans” for purchase.  These stickers (sheets of 10) will be available to aid the participants in their game.  They can put one sticker per round on their scoresheets for a correct answer.

[TeenMinistry] Tonight, Circle of Concern & Float Trip

Hey guys,

Tonight we will be in the Teen Room for a devotional time at 7 PM.  After the devotional we will be discussing “Trivia Night” details!!!  Come prepared to do some donating of your time and talents!  If you want to come early or stay late to help with Wednesday Works, I’m sure the help is needed.  We will not be breaking out the WII tonight – we are saving that for next Thursday, August 7^th!!! (see below)

 

 

Circle of Concern – Thursday, August 7, we will be working with Circle of Concern getting school supplies ready for needy children!  PLEASE sign up on the Teen Room Door TONIGHT if you can go.  We will leave at 9:30 AM from the building.  Bring a sack lunch and if we have time, we will hang out in the Teen Room after we are done BREAK OUT THE WII!!!!  We will be done by 2 PM!!!

[TeenMinistry] SoulLift Reminder

As of 3:30 PM Friday – we have 2 seats for SoulLift on Sunday.  If you are interested – e-mail me at mike.brown@lafayettechurch.org  - do not call – I may not get the message.

 

If you are going, here are some reminders:

 

SUNDAY

• Be at the building by 12:45 on Sunday after lunch (hint – don’t go to a sit-down place for lunch) – it is imperative that we leave no later than 1 PM or we will miss the beginning.  If you’re not there when the group leaves at 1 PM, you will need to find another ride.
• Bring dinner money (fast food) if you didn’t pre-buy a t-shirt and want one, you can do that too.  There will also be vendors there.
• We should be back to the building by 10 PM
• I need 3 or 4 High School volunteers to stay late with me (and other youth ministers) to help clean up.
• While we want you to have a blast, don’t forget that you are there to let God work on your heart…you will be reminded that he created a “Masterpiece” in you to use for His Glory!
• Word has it that Lafayette Teen Ministry may have won a contest category (possibly the on with the Nintendo Wii as the prize!!!) – this is just a rumor so stay tuned!

 

 

MONDAY

Don’t forget – 6 Flags is on your own…I’ll be around.  You can buy tickets for $25 either at the Youth Rally on Sunday or look for me at the main gate Monday morning

 

TUESDAY

We have a good group committed to go to the service project on Tuesday.  Be at the building by 9 AM – we should return by 4 PM – wear your work clothes!

Date:  Monday, July 28

Time:  just meet at Six Flags – make arrangements with each other – Parents:  THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIALLY CHAPERONED EVENT!!!  This would be a great day for the family to go together!

Cost:  if you don’t have season passes, you can get them from Soul-Lift for $25

Extra:  for $10 you can get a voucher for an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet (this is a great deal!)

Extra 2:  parents if you’re going and need parking, Soul-Lift can get you parking tickets for $10 (regularly $15 – free if you have a season pass w/ a parking stamp)

 

Servants Day

Date:  Tuesday, July 29

Time:  Meet at Lafayette at 9 AM  return by 4 PM

Cost:  nothing – lunch provided by Ohio Valley University
